Jazz4Justice is a volunteer run organization that is active throughout the DMV area. Please fill out our contact form if you’d like to volunteer for one of our events and we would be happy to have you! Volunteers must provide their own transportation to events. We also occasionally have open positions, listed below.

  • Job Title: Research Assistant (Contract, Remote, Part-Time)

    Position Overview

    Jazz4Justice is seeking a detail-oriented Research Assistant to support our mission by providing critical research and content development. This flexible, remote contract position will work closely with the Artistic Executive Director to gather, analyze, and present information that enhances our programs, grant applications, and marketing efforts.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Grant research

    • Data consolidation, updating, database management, and streamlining reports

    • Conduct and visually present data for internal decision making

    • Perform location-based research for event planning and logistics

    • Help track concert statistics

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Strong research and analytical skills

    • Comfortable with spreadsheets and data management

    • Ability to organize and present data in a clear, visual format

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently

    • Experience with nonprofits, grant writing, or arts administration is a plus

    • Familiarity and affinity with jazz, music education, or legal aid initiatives is a bonus

    Position Overview

    Jazz4Justice is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Development Assistant to support fundraising and donor relations. This remote, contract position offers a flexible schedule and works closely with the Artistic Executive Director to assist with donor acknowledgments, sponsor management, and event coordination.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Acknowledge and document gifts in a timely and accurate manner

    • Prepare sponsor reports and maintain sponsor records

    • Assist with fundraising efforts, including donor outreach and engagement

    • Promote special events and coordinate with sponsors for event recognition

    • Manage VIP and special guest coordination for events

    • Ensure proper documentation of all types of donations and maintain accurate donor records

    • Research funding opportunities

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional demeanor

    • High level of organization, attention to detail, and confidentiality

    • Interest in fundraising, donor relations, and nonprofit development

    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

    • Experience with donor databases, databases, or event coordination is a plus

The ideal candidate is a strong writer with excellent attention to detail and an eye for branding.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Manage the social media calendar to ensure consistent and engaging content

    • Create marketing materials, including flyers, newsletters, and digital content

    • Update and maintain marketing contact lists for outreach and engagement

    • Assist in launching additional social media platforms and expanding online presence

    • Draft and distribute press releases to promote events and initiatives

    • Advise on communications strategy and implementation as needed

    • Provide input on branding and merchandise to enhance visibility and fundraising efforts

    • Advise on wording for all public facing marketing materials

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills

    • High attention to detail and ability to maintain brand consistency

    • Experience with social media management (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, etc.)

    • Knowledge of marketing tools, such as Canva, MailChimp, or similar platforms, is a plus

    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines

    • Interest in nonprofit communications, public relations, or marketing

    • Recruit and coordinate volunteers for Jazz4Justice events and programs

    • Ensure volunteers receive training and guidance on their roles and responsibilities

    • Maintain an organized volunteer database and track participation

    • Assist in volunteer recognition efforts, such as appreciation events and communications

    • Collaborate with event organizers to ensure proper volunteer staffing and support

    • Develop and implement strategies to enhance volunteer engagement and retention

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills

    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

    • Ability to coordinate multiple volunteers and tasks effectively

    • Experience with volunteer management software or databases is a plus

  • Job Title: Grant Writer (Contract, Remote, Part-Time)

    Position Overview

    Jazz4Justice is seeking an experienced Grant Writer to identify, define, and develop funding sources to support existing programs as well as lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals to federal, state, local, and private funding agencies and foundations.

    The ideal candidate has strong writing skills, nonprofit grant experience, and the ability to work independently to secure funding opportunities.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Identify and research grant opportunities that align with Jazz4Justice’s mission and programs

    • Write, edit, and submit compelling grant proposals to foundations, corporations, and government agencies

    • Manage the grant application process, including deadlines, documentation, and compliance

    • Track grant statuses and provide reporting support as required by funders

    • Collaborate with leadership to develop strong narratives and funding strategies

    • Maintain organized grant records, including submission history and funder communications

    • Track statistics across all programs as needed for grant applications

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Proven experience in grant writing, with a successful track record of securing new funding

    • Strong research, writing, and editing skills

    • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines

    • Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and grant compliance

    • Experience with arts, legal aid, or education-related grants is a plus

    • Experience with State and Federal reporting and compliance requirements

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Proven track record of securing grants for operations support for a service organization
